Lack of Midbass, Whats to Blame?

hey guys, awhile ago i was guna trade all my expensive stuff for lower end equipment n get outta car audio, and im almost done (waiting for the 13kv.2 to be repaired)

anyways, when i had my alpine cda-9833 and my fosgate 4ch (87rms x 4 @ 4 ohm) my cdts had alot of midbass, very full sounding

but now, ever since i switched to a pioneer 6700, and a 2ch soundstream (120rms x 2 @ 4) there is barely any midbass

my eq was always flat, and the cutoff point was always 80hz 12db slope

my speakers are in heavily deadened doors, what happened? any ideas?

the main reason i switched to a more powerful amp, was to get more midbass, but i got the opposite, i dont get why there is such littl emidbass now that i switched my equipment out

since i switched, i never touched my speakers, any suggestions?

Re: Lack of Midbass, Whats to Blame?

I've heard that fosgate amps have build in boosts in the low frequencies to make them sound more "exciting" and "better" than other amps during a-b tests in stores, but I don't know if that's true. If so then it could easily explain it, you had a bass boost before that you didn't know about, and now it's gone.

Re: Lack of Midbass, Whats to Blame?

hmm if thats true, then that might be the reason

hey sr20, do u think the way the sub blends into the soundstage can effect the way i perceive midbass?

im also temporarily using 2 10" ported jbls (prefab), until my 13kv.2 is fixed

Re: Lack of Midbass, Whats to Blame?

Don't want to sound like an idiot but did you look at the obvious and make sure the fronts are not wired 180 degrees out of phase? Also, that head has a SQED effect for the front channels. It basically enhances high frequencies while lowering bass responce. Make sure you have that turned off.

Yes, and if your kv2 was sealed that might have something to do with it. Ported generally cuts out on the upper end, so any midbass response would need to be produced almost solely by the cdts, they wouldn't have the sub backing them up. So it might have something to do with it.

Re: Lack of Midbass, Whats to Blame?

ah i c

hey poncho, i can't really find that effect you're talking about, do you know how to adjust that? and since its been suggested to me so many times i'll check the phase, the phase is just making sure the right/left is correct yea? thx again

http://pioneerelectronics.com/pio/p...ationManual.pdf

Look on pages 35 and 38. They don't call it what I said anymore but those pages talk about it.

Yes, you are correct. Someone with a good ear can go from the right and left fader and listen to the music. If the bass responce seems louder when the fader is all the way to the right or left, they are wired out of phase. This is simply having them wired backward from each other. So, simply swaping around the speaker wire on ONE speaker will correct this. It is a very common problem.

Re: Lack of Midbass, Whats to Blame?

thanks alot poncho, i actually found it in my manual before i sw ur link heh

anyways this is strange, in addition for the 3 band parametric eq they give u, u can add another 2 bands of parametric equalization for bass and treble emphasis

i put the treble +1 @ 2.5khz and the bass +2 @ 160hz, my speakers are now really full sounding

thanks alot
