My lincoln town car makes a funny noice when i put it into gear

First off i havn't driven the car in maybe 3 weeks. When i put it into drive i hear a thud in the engine it sounds like if you were to drop a chunk of metal on a soft couch. What is going on is it normal?

Sound like a little play in the rear end or a bad motor mount. The rear end is nothing to worry about. Check by going from drive to reverse, if there is any play you will again hear the thud. Good Luck.
