1998 Buick Regal GS will not start sometimes
My 1998 Buick Regal GS has developed a problem, sometimes when you go to start it nothing happens, it is like it is completely dead, I have replaced the battery and that helped but it has still happened several times after that. Got any ideas?

alternator, starter. the two most common starting problem causers with the battery. I would start by checking the starter since it is dead sometimes. then if that isn't it then checking the alternator but with the alternator it should crank then not start.

Next time it acts that way, smack on the starter with a wrench. A starter that is going bad has worn brushes that sometimes don't make contact. A good stiff smack usually gets it running, but only that time. Its more of a diagnosis tool. If it suddenly works, then you know it was the starter.

Hey, Mod eats words, film at 11
A friend of mine brought up a good point. That starter may be a permanent magnet design which doesn't respond well to "smacks with a wrench." Scrap my advice
