Autocross Car 15k For vehicle
If you were building a car for everyday use and for competitive autocross use what would you choose? The car has to be able to be driven daily without too many problems if it is maintained properly and not too abused. The budget is roughly 15k for the actual car itself and not the mods to be added. The drive train is limited to RWD and AWD. The engine choice of a variable is preferably a 6 cylinder and over.
With each car listed I have left a few of the mods planned in the future vaguely, besides other basic ones. The top choices I am thinking about which are availiable around here are the following:
2nd Gen 3000GT VR4: some wieght reduction done and a beefed up drivetrain and tranny to help power loss.
3rd Gen Rx7 FD: Basic reliablity modifications done such as a upgraded cooling system, etc.
MKIV Supra NA: Reliable engine and there is a Twinturbo 6 speed conversion waiting in the shop my uncles shop.
99+ Trans Am WS6: Some suspensions mods to help the beast keep the power on the ground
99+ Camaro SS: Same as the WS6
70+ Dodge Challenger: 340 and 4 speed, all the old school glamour with all the new age technology.
~You are free to suggest another car that you would thinkg would make a good competitor for the same price range.
I don't mean to provoke any bad feelings or anything here. this is just a question that keeps on puzzling me and I can't seem to figure it out. So this is why I am enlisting the help of my fellow car enthusiests. What would you pick? Remember the car must be able to be drive everyday reliably. Thank you for any comments and information.

I'd find a nice C4 Corvette or FD3S RX-7. You can find 'em both in good shape for fifteen grand. The C4 is a little more practical as a daily driver (better gas mileage, ease and infrequency of maintenance, smoother ride), whereas the FD3S is a little faster (better balanced chassis, less weight, tighter suspension).

Out of the list given...FD or SS/WS6
Free thinking...MR2 NA/Turbo or Miata (read GO-KART like handling)

Re: Autocross Car 15k For vehicle
I would go with a C4 Corvette or buy a $10000 miata and drop $5000 into it making it a competetive STS2 car.

Re: Autocross Car 15k For vehicle
I was looking for more of a japanese car, not to like get on anyones nerves, but that's just what I prefer. Respect American cars and all so don't get me wrong and I really love em to death, hell we have a 68 440 Charger 4 speed, but that's not my cup of tea.
The miata isn't my kind of thing either, but I do hear they can be beasts in autocross. I like the idea of the MR2, but I heard they could have heating problems. Right now I like The Rx7 FD but matinence would suck pretty bad. The NA supra would be cheaper in the long run and more reliable. And the WS6 woould just me soo awesome but I don't know how they compair on the track cause I have to use the car to get here and there as well. I like good top end power on the freeway. I don't really drg race and don't plan too, but bottom end power out of the corners is always a must. As you can see there is a lot to think about. thank you for all the comments and opinions that you guys have left.

Don't worry, I'm exactly the same way. As much as I love the C4-C6 Corvettes and the 4th gen. Camaros and Firebirds, I don't know if I could ever actually go through with buying a non-Japanese car. Anyways, like you said, maintenance would be a nightmare for the FD3S. They can be just as reliable as any other car on the road, it just takes a lot more time and money. The Supra N/A would be cheaper in the long run, but I think the MR2 Turbo would be the better autocross car. The Camaro SS and Trans Am WS6 are great too, but for autocross, I don't see the point of buying them over the C4 Corvette.

Re: Autocross Car 15k For vehicle
I just love the shape of the 99+ F bodies like the WS6 and the SS. They also have the LS1 powerplant like the C5 vette, they are just well stockier and less precise cars from what I have heard. Does anyone know if an NA Supra with a TT conversion would pass mog in California? Thank you for your time.

Re: Autocross Car 15k For vehicle
I do not believe that any of the kits for the NA Supra are Smog legal. Also, a turbo kit on an NA supra would put you in Street Mod class with the likes of supercharged F-bodies, Turbo/Swapped civics, turbo upgraded STI's and Evo's, and all almost all of them have full suspensions and race tires.
you'd be much better off with a car that you won't have to swap the engine in or add a turbo to with the way the rules are set up.

Re: Autocross Car 15k For vehicle
Yeah, don't bother with aftermarket turbo kits, swaps, or conversions; they're just gonna make it a pain in the ass to get the car to pass smog, bump it up to a higher autocross class, cost more money than its worth, run the risk of hurting your car's reliability, and definitely hurt its resale. The WS6 is indeed a beautiful car, and if you wanna get one over a C4 or C5 Corvette, go ahead, it just won't be quite as fast. On the other hand, it'll be cheaper to buy and probably cheaper to modify as well.

Re: Autocross Car 15k For vehicle
Well, for me its the Miata. Just a question, but why didn't you list the 240SX in your list?
