I have a '95 Jeep Cherokee (auto, V6, 4.0L, 200K miles). It just started happening in the last couple of days or so and it's not consistent. When i give it gas from a stop i hear the engine rev but the car accelerates very slowly. Also, when let off the brakes it creeps slower than normal? I don't have any problems at higher speeds. What's my Cherokee's problem? Thanks in advance for the help.

Sounds like either your transmission is slipping 1st gear or something is wrong with the torque converter. Is it the original transmission?

Wow, 200k on an all original chrysler transmission. Congrats on getting it to last that long. You must take good care of your cars, as those transmissions usually like to blow up around 100k with average care. One thing that you can do to test it is to do a brake torque. Put it in gear, firmly plant your foot on the brake and full throttle it. The engine should rev only to the stall speed, which is the point where the fluid coupling in the torque converter begins to lock up and create a 1:1 connection. The stall speed should be no higher than 2000 RPM. If when you do this the RPM's go much higher(be careful you don't redline the engine if they do), then you have a bad torque converter and/or first gear is slipping extremely bad. Since you said that you don't have any problems at higher speed, i would put money on a slipping first gear over a torque converter as a bad torque converter would yield bad acceleration in all gears.
