box design queston
I made boxes for two 6x9" speakers. Should I drill ports in them or will they be fine without them? If I do, how big do they need to be?

Re: box design queston
no you don't need ports in your 6x9 boxes and FYI ports are not just simply drilling holes into a box you have to calculate the length of the port to get a desired tuning frequency based on the area of the port and volume of the enclosure.

sometimes my arse....... I do what works and if it works I do it. Car audio is a lot of guess work and trial and error.

actually it's an exacting science that follows the rules of physics, every time. Unfortunately, once you get to understand that, it takes some of the "magic" out of it.

Yes, however a lot of the time the physics can't be calculated and its just trial and error...... i e a great subwoofer enclosure.... WinISD bass box ect.... can get you close, but only trial and error will get you closer.

well, the biggest problem with bass stuff is that programs like winisd cannot really factor in the fact that the interior of the vehicle is, in itself, an enclosure too - albeit a rather large one. It also can't help you find a high pressure node or "sweet spot" to put the woofer in. These still follow the laws of physics, just a little harder to quantify.

Very true. It can't account for things like Cabin Gain, completely accurate response graphs, and peaks as you were stating. Prolly b/c every vehicle is different
