rated power

on adire's website they have a label that says Pmax, then a footnote that says all xx diameter voice coils are rated at xx watts.
is this max power or rms power?

Re: rated power

DITTO/\/\/\/\/\/\ There's no regulation regarding this. So, I could take a crap, connect some speaker terminals to the crap, put it in a box that reads 12,000 watts peak power!

Re: rated power

thoes are RMS and they are probably highly underrated...adire just took an underrated RMS for the coil...so all 3" coils will have the same rating, 2 1/2 will have the same, 2" etc...

Re: rated power

None of Adire's subs ever need full rms to get full ouput unless in a bad enclosure or competition system. Like for example my buddies brahma 15 in 2.25cuft. sealed only needs about 1000 wats for full output.

Re: rated power

Note: that is the MK1... the MK2's are probably twice as efficent.

just and FYI for bjboertje
the power needed is entirely dependant on enclsore.... a brahma MK1 in a ported enclsore tuned to 50Hz needs nearly 8kw to reach full excursion... however, in most daily set ups you will not have a box tuned that high nor will you put 8kw on a 1600w rated woofer. Brahma MK1's only need 500-1000w to reach full excursion in most sealed enclsores. the smaller the enclsore (the higher the enclsore Q) the more power is needed to reach full output.
