Custom Engine Question

Hi this is kinda a strange question but it is kinda important.......

I am thinking about making a custom car and i am thinking about using a V8 crate engine pushing 550-600 HP. the question is the engine will have the american muscle car sound and i want like a import/Excotic sound. my though was to change the sound would be to change the exaust. would this change it that much or would it work at all? If you cant change the sound that much what engine would you guys suggest to get that sound other then like a ferrari or a lamborghini engine. Thanx

if you want the exotic sound, get a small displacement V8 which is what mainly the ferrari's run. (i.e 3.0L-4.0L V8s)

Re: Custom Engine Question

a Cadillac Northstar sounds quite exotic with an open exhaust.

Re: Custom Engine Question

The difference in sound is due to the exhaust manifold design.

American v8's with (I might be wrong on the name) 180 degree headers...... (they have a tube or two running underneath the engine, which connects one exhaust port per side to the collector on the opposite side of the car).......... sound very strange and much like a Ferrari.
This header design also optimises the exhaust scavanging principle, for more power than ordinary headers.
