Boxed subs?
My question is: I just got 2 new subs and dont have a box for either of them, im thinking of taking out my 1 boxed sub and hooking up the 2 that i just got to my amp on 2 different channels instead of the 1 amp bridged. So, do i need to get a box for the 2 subs, i mean i know i dont have too but will the quality be real bad if i dont have them in any type of enclosure. ( i will find a place to mount them though). They are rockford fosgate, the 1 amp boxed i have in my car right now is alpine r-type.

Re: Boxed subs?
Ok, wait? You currently have one type-r in your vehicle in a box. You now have TWO RF's that you want to use w/o an enclosure?! Want to make sure I get your situation correct.
Either way, you can't do it. Subwoofers do not work without enclosures (Except for some IB or Free-air models...but don't worry about them) and it's a good way to blow them. So, you MUST have an enclosure. Let us know what model they are and we can suggest a proper enclosure! Later

Re: Boxed subs?
prolly P2 10s or 12s.. but go at least tell us what color they are.. if you dont know the model that is.. if you know the model you should give it to us
are they light grey smooth plastic cones with foam surrounds? or are the cones black with red letters?

Re: Boxed subs?
Any sub can be used with out an enclosure but usually leads to poor performance and failure. The way you need to do it is separate the 2 planes of the speaker. You have the front part of the cone which is the front plane and then the rear part where the magnet/motor structure is.
Years ago when most people were driving vehicles with actual trunks, people used a board with a hole (diameter of the sub) and screwed the sub to the board and the board to the back seat bracing or even the package tray area of the trunk. If you had subs that required large amounts of airspace, this usually workd pretty well. With todays subs, I wouldn't try it.
