New Engine/Tranny?

I love the look of the early mustangs (the 65, specifically). With a mixture of forced induction and small shots of nitrous, I'm looking to achieve around 500-600rwhp. I know that on the stock engine this isn't possible due to structural limits, and the drivetrain would of course require an overhaul.

My question can be narrowed down to this.. What combination of engine and transmission can handle a boosted and nitrous environment best, and fit reasonably well in a 1965 Mustang?

Thanks

~noct

Edit: How about a level 10 tranny with a 1990 corvette j-engine? I'd have to custom fit the tranny though..

Edit 2: Sorry :P

I'm looking for a nice, big engine. The F350 is nice and big, but it seems like it would take alot of work to fit it. 460ci/7.5L sounds nice though

Re: New Engine/Tranny?

This chassis will accomodate a Ford 'Windsor' block engine (289/302 or 351W) much more easily than anything else.
Don't bother building a stock block. What you want is an aftermarket block where all the mods, like 4 bolt main caps, forged crank and pistons and really strong rods etc are already installed. Such engines are MUCH stronger than stock blocks. Ford Motorsports sells such blocks, as do other manufacturers, such as World Products. I am not sure of availability right now though, but they are out there. They do (or used to) make race versions of the 351W that are bored and stroked to 427 cid.

There are not cheap, upwards of $10 to 15 K ready to go. Also, you would need a Ford 9 inch rear end (Try Currie Enterprises) and a comparable trans. Also the Mustang chassis would need strengthening, either with a roll cage or sub frame connectors.

I'm having trouble finding anything from either Ford Motorsports or from World Products.

The third down is the closest I can find, but I'm missing that magic word...forged. :/
