leap pwnz all...... you don't really need one. Winisd will give u a rough estimate.

Re: the wistles go WOOOOOOOOOOO
well what do you need it for?
If you're just trying to get port dimensions for a given box/tune then winisd is fine. If you're trying to design a box to give you a good response then none of them are all that great because it depends so heavily on your car's transfer function.

Re: the wistles go WOOOOOOOOOOO
heh, I just designed something that would fit.... I don't have anything to compare it to, but I think it sounds pretty good. It's only a sealed box though... trial and error is the last way to tune it if you can't find any way to calculate the length and diameter.

Re: the wistles go WOOOOOOOOOOO
ok cool as long as winisd will give me measures within one hertz or so then thats fine with me.. but more than 2 and i was thinking about gettin another program..
and yeah sr20 i didnt need it for response just tuning.
im about to build a box for a buddy.. like 6.5 cubes to prolly 35 hz for two comp vr 15s (one of them mine i just sold him for 75 dolla) and wanted to make sure that winisd would get me close enough.
thanks guys

Re: the wistles go WOOOOOOOOOOO
It calculated port length perfectly fine, if you dont beleive me run it through the formula every once and a while. it tells you how long the port has to be for deisred tuning, it doesnt take flared and slotted ports into account (well pro does). it is the responce and impeadence along with a few others that are out of wack... also, Win ISD's box designer doesnt take port displacement, sub displacement, or bracing into account.... use your head and WinISD as a tool...

sooo youre saying i cant enter the dimensions of a rectangular slot port into winisd and get a correct length to tune to what i tell it to?? cause this was what i was looking for... if it cant do slot ports then what good is it? just pvc ports??
and yeah i knew the second part.. kindasucks it doesnt do that for you but hey .. not liek i have anything else to do in my free time other than mess with speaker plans in my head like most people here hah

Re: the wistles go WOOOOOOOOOOO
Copied from an AIM convo I had a while ago should get you started:
[12:21] ngbd13: input your desire NET volume
[12:21] ngbd13: and tuning
[12:21] ngbd13: THEN design desire port area
[12:21] ngbd13: it will give you the port length!
[12:21] ngbd13: then...
[12:22] ngbd13: (Port area X Length)/1728 to get port displacement
[12:22] ngbd13: add that to NET volume, and add .3 for sub displacement
[12:22] ngbd13: that is your NEEDED gross volume
[12:22] ngbd13:
[12:23] UNDERC0VERPUNKER: alright, time to start knocking out numbers
[12:23] ngbd13: THEN!!!!
[12:23] ngbd13: State two dimensions of the box that you want, and solve for the third side....
[12:24] ngbd13: (L x W X H)/1728 = Gross Cubes
[12:24] UNDERC0VERPUNKER: yep
[12:24] UNDERC0VERPUNKER: good old geometry
[12:24] ngbd13: So, (1728 * Gross cubes)/(L x W) = Height
[12:24] ngbd13: or something
[12:24] ngbd13: WOOOOooooooooooooooooooooHOOoooooooooooooooooooooo o!!!!!!!!
That is for winISD...
I use BassBoxPro 6. Great program. WinISD is usually off by less then and inch

Re: the wistles go WOOOOOOOOOOO
well you have to make the corrections for a slotted port...you usually gain 1/2-1 times the port height when using one of hte enclsoure walls as part of the port.... it tells you what port length to tune to the desired frequincy, not the physical length of the port. in other words, it doesnt make end corrections or slotted port bending corrections....but there are plenty of places on the net that tell you how to do it....
