I have 97 Eclipse GSX with the factory infinity stereo and speakers. Now I know that my speakers are bad and need replaced but i was wondering if there is any easy way of knowing whether or not the factory amplifier is bad. Its under the passenger seat. It feels warm, not hot after having it on and I can still turn the stereo up pretty loud, but 3 of the 4 speakers (door and rear) are completely shot so it sounds like crap. How would I know if the amp is still ok??? Any help woul be appreciated. I would prefer not having to remove the amp if possible as I would have to remove seat and brackets and carpeting to remove the amp. Thanks.


Oh and there are no lights/indicators on the amp to see that it is working but I thought that I wouldn't get any audio if the amp was screwed as the audio has to go through the amp before getting to the speakers.

since the speakers are blown anyway .... go ahead and replace them. Then you will be able to tell if the amp is bad.

If the amp was dead you'd not hear anything but that's not to say that it's not nearing the end. You do still have the OEM head unit in there don't you? If you have a higher powered aftermarket item it could cause the speakers to get distorted sound since the amp could be clipping

Yeah I still have the factory head in it. I think the amp is ok. I'm guessing the speakers are just shot. Thanks for the help guys.
